Nature

The southern part of the Drôme is a well-known and very popular region for tourists. Le Charaix is located in the northern part, also called the “Drôme of the hills” (Drôme des Collines). This part is hardly known but has beautiful nature for hiking and mountain biking, which is less demanding here than in the high mountains. There are many marked routes. If you like to go to the higher mountains for hiking, cycling or skiing in the winter, the Vercors is not far either.

At 51 km is the Grotte de Choranches and at 41 km you can find the safaripark in Paugres.

Culture

In Hauterives, 7 km from Le Charaix, stands the historical monument ‘Le Palais idéal du facteur Cheval’. This monument was self-built by postman Cheval in his garden in the early 20th century. Today, it is a tourist spot that attracts many visitors. We visited it a few years ago and were then very impressed by the spiritual messages that this, seemingly simple man, is hinting at to us visitors. He still inspires and motivates us every day too!

For art lovers, the nearest museum is 19 km away: Musée Diocésain d’art Sacré de Mours-Saint-Eusebe.

For those who enjoy visiting large cities, Lyon, Valence and Grenoble can all be reached within 1.5 hours.
